Spring cleaning is in full bloom in the Modesto areas…. And as the days start to turn longer and the temperature starts to rise, we like bears awaking from our long winters nap, start to emerge from our caves and embrace the long awaited promise of spring. Our thoughts drift to a Rockwell like scene were we have anticipated beautiful blooming flowers, tidy well producing gardens, outdoor entertaining and baseball games. Amid all these peaceful reflections, the thought of spring cleaning and all that you need to accomplish, slowly creeps in as well. This year as you take that first initial examining walk of your home, analyzing each laborious task, you may also start to realize that you have also wanted to paint the guest room and the living room could use some sprucing up as well. It can all be a little overwhelming at first, but if you realize that there are many resources out there you can utilize, it can lighten the load considerably.    Take for instance an option we offer at Lancaster Painting in the Modesto. It’s called -“Painter for a Day”.

This age old question may not go back to the beginning of time, but in Modesto it is important just the same.  Over the years many of our clients who have been looking to update,  spruce up or make a subtle change in the appearance of their homes have presented us with the question:  should I paint before or after the carpet is laid down?

Many have been convinced by past experiences that painting first ensures their new carpeting remains paint free.  Our painters recognize this as a legitimate concern, so if it is your desire to paint first, by all means, go ahead and paint before installing the carpeting.

However, some points worth thinking about:

  • Removing old carpeting and flooring could stir up dust/dirt/fibers that can stick to your freshly painted walls/baseboards/trim.
  • During carpet/flooring installation there is a possibility that your wall or trim may be accidentally nicked or scuffed.
  • Additional costs may be incurred if the painting contractor has to make an additional trip for touch-ups.

Ultimately we feel this question is best answered by: “it depends on who does the painting”.  Hiring a reputable professional painting company  that uses proper preparation and taping techniques should alleviate your worries. To do so, be sure to take advantage of resources such as the Better Business Bureau and the Contractor State License Board to check the contractor’s business reputation and credentials.

Here at Lancaster Painting, we answer the question concerning painting and carpeting in the best way we know how. In these economic times, we all want to be certain we have hired a company that we can trust to demonstrate precision and care when working in our homes. At Lancaster Painting we stand behind our work , and have for 25 years. While we feel that if properly prepared, either order will work, we believe it is in our client’s best interest to install the carpeting first and allow our painter’s to apply the paint (the finishing touch) last.
