The cost of a concrete floor coating depends on a whole host of factors: the specific product you choose, customizations, square footage, age and condition of your floor, preparation involved, and more. We take this process very seriously to ensure your estimate and scope of work are accurate.

What Goes Into the Cost of a Concrete Floor Coating?

1. Your Concrete Floor’s Current Condition

Your concrete floor coating should be designed for success. And by success, we mean that it should last for a long time and look incredible; no matter what you throw at it (or drop on it). 

• How many cracks/gouges are in your floor? They’re totally normal, but we will need to mend them before we grind the surface. As you can imagine, the size, depth, and number of those cracks will directly impact the price. 
• What’s your moisture content? Concrete is permeable, meaning that moisture can work its way right up through and onto your floor. To set your coating up for success, we check for elevated moisture levels that may require a moisture barrier. 
• General hardness. Concrete might feel hard to the touch, but in reality some concrete is softer than others. If it’s too soft, it limits the grinding we can do to prepare the floor, and may prevent us from coating the surface at all. Best to know that right up front. 
• Do you have an old coating that needs to be removed? If you have an old system on your floor that needs to go, the process will require more time.

2. The Type of Concrete Floor Coating System 

You have options! Some homeowners choose to get a bucket of epoxy and do it themselves, or hire a pro to install a different kind of system. The key is to know what you’re getting, and to recognize you are making an investment, not a low-cost fix.

For example, if you spend a few hundred dollars on a do-it-yourself kit, you should know that it will likely only last a year or two. You also might run into issues with peeling up on hot summer days, chipping, and discoloration. Plus, it’s hard to apply! 

So, what do you value? Do you want a system that costs more up front but will never cause a headache? Or do you prefer a cheap system with ongoing touch-ups, repairs, etc.? That’s not a trick question, honestly. There’s no wrong answer. We just want you to know what you’re paying for and what to expect.

3. Surface Preparation Before Coating Concrete

When you paint a wall, you know that you have to fill nail holes, sand, dust, prime, then paint, right? Otherwise your paint job just won’t look as good, and you might have weird dust bunnies trapped in that finish coat. 

The same is true for a concrete floor. If you invest in a better quality system, your installer will invest time in surface preparation. That extra time will, of course, impact the quote you receive.
