Do you wonder why your walls always seem to have scuff marks even when you never see the cause of the scratches?
Usually, scuff marks are from one of two things:
1. Residue that sits on the top of a surface.
- Things like rubber on the sole of a shoe brushing against a wall, or a broom handle leaning against a wall can easily transfer residue onto paint.
2. An abrasion that has damaged the actual paint film.
- With a flat or low sheen paint, the paint film has small microscopic hairs that stand up to capture the light. When something hits or abrades the surface, it makes these hairs lay flat which causes that spot to appear darker than the rest of the paint.
There are no universal tips that will guarantee preventing scuffs on your walls, especially when you have little children or many people in your household. But any conscious effort you make to avoid objects coming in contact with your walls reduces the chances them getting scratched.
