As you know, we are focused on quality home maintenance. Sure, this most often revolves around interior and exterior painting , but we thought that this time we would expand our scope and offer a different brand of home care advice.
At risk of stating the obvious, this has been a particularly dry season for us here in the Central Valley area. This means that it’s more important than ever that we all do our part to keep our water usage conservative. This doesn’t mean, on the other hand, that our lawn care practices need to completely suffer.
Caring for Your Property without Using Too Much Water
Here are a few tips and ideas to consider:
- Take advantage of what mulch offers - Keeping a layer of mulch around trees and plants not only blocks the growth of weeds, but it also seals in that precious moisture.
- Water strategically - During those limited times when you do water your plants, water earlier in the day (to reduce evaporation) and never when it’s windy. It may seem simplistic, but watering in the wind will cause more waste since the flow will likely be less accurate.
- Adding a layer of compost or other organic mixture will increase moisture retention in the soil.
- Are you considering planting new bushes or shrubs? Do a little research and choose those that are drought-resistant.
- Set your mowing level higher - This will allow your grass’ roots to grow deeper.
