Have you ever driven through a neighborhood and stopped to take note of the colors? Not all homes are created equal, and the same can be said of exterior paint jobs. While some houses are bright and balanced, they’re few and far between. Instead, you’ll often see a lot of beige, particularly with prefab homes.

There are all kinds of home construction styles in this area, each one offering something visually unique. Certain paint colors complement different structures better than others, and the difference can be obvious! When it comes time to  paint your home’s exterior , there are a few things you should be aware of.

Let’s face it, aside from personal preference, resale value is a big deal! Painting your home is a serious investment, one that you should get a return on.

In light of that, keep the big picture in mind when you choose paint. Remember that it’s going to last a decade or more. You’ll want to find the right balance between trendy and timeless.

For a recent project, we went with a  Dover White SuperPaint  by Sherwin-Williams for the body. While white might sound bland or counterintuitive, the results are quite the opposite, as you can see! The original full beige body made this home appear modest and average. With a tasteful satin white, suddenly it’s popping!

For the trim and garage door, we applied a shade of gray called  Ethereal Mood by Sherwin-Williams. This is another SuperPaint, an acrylic latex designed to protect and seal a home’s exterior. You can see how the gray accents the home  just  the right amount, remaining perfectly inside the new color pallet they’re going for.

Last, but not least, we painted the doors of the home with a beautifully subtle shade of sage green. The paint was a  Sherwin-Williams Solo Semi Gloss , the perfect latex that gives doors a brighter texture and shine.
